About
My interest in painting comes from a lifelong desire to create and to be surrounded by beautifully crafted things.
I grew up in Georgetown, South Carolina, and was not raised by a family of creatives and art collectors, but by boat salesmen. While my parents taught me little about art, they nurtured my inspiration without realizing it. Countless hours spent in Pawleys Island creek, boat rides up the Pee Dee River, and family dinners shared both around picnic tables and in dining rooms set with china all shaped the way I see things. Moments and places like these are what inspire my artwork.
I graduated from the best university in South Carolina…Clemson University, in 2023 with a degree in Studio Art, concentrating in oil painting.
Not wanting to leave the South Carolina Lowcountry again, I moved to Charleston after graduation.
Artist Statement:
I typically work in an expressionistic style, using distorted forms, manipulated perspective, and bold color and pattern. My paintings often feature objects, food, and furniture arranged in surreal, non-realistic environments that reflect my personal relationship to a specific place and moment in time.
In my work, I create space through line and blocks of color rather than through shadow or traditional perspective. A table might be reduced to a simple circle, or a single line across the canvas might separate the floor from the wall. I intentionally avoid the traditional illusion of depth, choosing instead to show objects as shapes. The table becomes an idea (gathering, home, meals, conversation) rather than a literal physical object.
